penne pasta arrabiata with shrimp and Jar Goods Classic Spicy tomato sauce

Arrabiata is a traditional Italian spicy tomato sauce made with garlic, onions, tomatoes, and crushed red pepper flakes. Since Jar Goods Classic Spicy tomato sauce is an arrabbiata sauce with just the right amount of spice, it's simple to create this pasta arrabiata recipe any night of the week.

Arrabiata is actually an Italian word that means “angry,” which refers to the tomato sauce's spiciness! Angry is the last thing you will be when you try this spicy penne arrabbiata. For this pasta arrabiata recipe we added shrimp to add another level of indulgence!

We think you are going to be thrilled at how easy and delicious this pasta arrabiata really is to make. It's just what you need for an easy weeknight dinner. You'll have this shrimp pasta dish ready in less than 30 minutes.

Pasta Arrabiata with Shrimp ingredient list

  • 8 oz penne pasta
  • 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound shrimp peeled and deveined
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1 Jar Goods Classic Spicy tomato sauce
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

How to make pasta arrabiata with shrimp

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add in the penne pasta and cook according to the package directions, stirring occasionally.

Rinse and drain the penne with cold water to keep from sticking together and continuing to cooking. Set the penne aside. We'll be back for it in a few.

In a large skillet heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel. Sprinkle the shrimp with salt & pepper and add them to the hot large skillet. Cook for 60 - 90 seconds per side.

When the shrimp is opaque in color on both sides, transfer them to a bowl and set aside. Reduce the heat in your large skillet to low. Add the remaining tbs of olive oil and onions. Cook the onions in the olive oil until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add in the garlic. Cook stirring well to combine the flavors. After a few minutes, add the cooked shrimp back into the skillet.

Add the jar of Classic Spicy tomato sauce. Mix for a few moments to fully incorporate all ingredients. Toss in the cooked penne pasta and stir to combine. Add more red pepper flakes for some extra heat.

That's all there is to this easy weeknight meal.... unless you want to add some grated parmesan cheese! We know you will love this simple shrimp arrabiata recipe. Be sure to tell us what you think.
