Grilled Pizza

It’s summer!  Time to get outside and light the grill!  And time to relax a bit - we admit it: we buy our dough.  Whole Foods has fantastic options: Original, Multigrain, and Whole Wheat.

Pizza dough
Classic Red Tomato Sauce
Olive oil
A few pinches of flour
Topping of your choice

Light your grill.  Both gas and charcoal work just fine.  Make sure your grates are as clean as possible from your last grill.

Using room temperature dough, toss a bit of flour on it and your countertop and roll it out. Don’t worry, your pizza does not have to be uniform in shape. It’s more fun when it’s an odd shape! Transfer dough to a lightly floured pizza paddle or round cookie/pizza sheet.

Lightly oil grates. Brush dough with oil and flop onto grill. Close the lid and cook until the bottom of the crust is golden brown, about 2 minutes. Brush the top of the dough with oil and flip. Close grill and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

Remove dough. Spread Classic Red evenly on your dough, and top with your favorite ingredients.  The sky’s the limit.  Return pizza to grill, cover lid and allow cheese to melt, 1-2 minutes. Remove pizza and let rest 2-3 minutes before serving.

Some of our favorite topping suggestions:

  • Sausage, roasted broccoli and fresh mozzarella
  • Chorizo, roasted red peppers and shredded mozzarella
  • Caramelized onion and roasted broccoli
  • Or, of course, mozzarella and pepperoni!
