How to make a taco bowl

Let's all admit it, Taco Tuesday is a great day of the week. But who said tacos can only be eaten on a Tuesday. This taco bowl recipe will show you how to make an easy taco bowl. It's so easy you'll want to make it all the time. Jar Goods tomato sauce is right at home in this tortilla bowl. Who says tomato sauce is only for pasta?

To make this taco bowl recipe all your own, add your favorite toppings such as chopped onions, avocados, cheddar cheese, fresh tomatoes, black beans, and sour cream.

  • 1 cup quick-cooking brown rice
  • 1 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 jar Classic Red tomato sauce or Classic Spicy tomato sauce
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 large ripe avocado
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar or monterey jack)
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes (optional)
  • ½ cup shredded iceberg lettuce (optional)
  • ¼ cup diced white onion (optional)
  • 4 taco bowl shells (optional)

Prepare rice according to package directions. In a large skillet or nonstick skillet, brown the ground turkey on high heat. Add in the Classic Red tomato sauce and stir to incorporate.

Sprinkle the taco seasoning packet over the cooked ground turkey. Mix well and simmer for about 3-5 minutes so all the flavors are well combined.

Divide the brown rice among four bowls or taco bowl shells and top with ground turkey. Have fun and add your favorite toppings. Skirt some lime juice for a pop of citrus and sprinkle on some chili powder for some added spice.

This recipe also works great with Jar Goods Classic Spicy tomato sauce if you like your tacos with a little extra kick.
