Jar Goods premium tomato sauce is a great base for your next bbq!

It’s time to take Jar Goods premium tomato sauce to your next BBQ! A jar of Classic Red tomato sauce makes the perfect base for a delicious barbecue sauce. For this barbecue sauce recipe, we’ve chosen bone-in chicken thighs, our favorite when it comes time to grill.

  • 1 jar Classic Red premium tomato sauce
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 package bone-in chicken thighs (3-4 lbs)
  • ¼ cup olive oil

Remove thighs from packaging and pat dry with a paper towel. Place thighs in a mixing bowl and olive oil, toss to coat evenly.  Season with salt and pepper.

Combine the remaining ingredients in a medium saucepan and stir well to incorporate. Heat over medium-high heat until the sauce reaches a simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened slightly. Cool completely before using.

Heat your grill on medium-low heat to about 300 F. Remove chicken from bowl, and place chicken thighs skin-side down on the hot grill. Cook for about 25 minutes with the lid down, turning occasionally. Keep an eye on the temperature of the grill. If it gets too hot, you will char the chicken without cooking it through. During the last 20 minutes or so of cooking, brush sauce over the chicken and continue cooking until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 165 F and the sauce has cooked down to a sticky consistency. Make sure to test more than one piece for consistency.

Once cooked through, remove the chicken from the heat and place it on a large platter. Tent with aluminum foil and let rest for 5 minutes. Serve remaining BBQ sauce on the side for added dipping and flavor.  For those who want a kick, substitute Classic Red with Classic Spicy. Serve with coleslaw or any of your favorite bbq sides.
